If you want to want to take advantage of a beautiful and sunny hawaiian day outdoors, why not take a hike and absorb the awesome views our island has to offer?! I recommend the Makapuu Lighthouse hike. It's a fairly easy 3-mile hike round trip on a concrete path wide enough to fit one vehicle. Going up is all uphill and there are some rocky, dirt roads but nothing too difficult. There is a scenic point along the way where you might see whales during whale season. The very top has a lookout point where you can see Sea Life Park, Rabbit Island, the Koolau Mountains, and of course the lighthouse. We take our "mainland" guests there all the time and they love it!
Respond Share This Posted 9 Jul 2008 (190 Views)This is a wonderful hike indeed, although it's really more of a walk than a hike! Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon as there is little shade and it gets hot. But the view as you're headed up and at the top is spectacular and will make you say a prayer of thanks that you live on this beautiful island.....

We all love dogs, but not what they leave behind, so we depend on dog owners to pick up after them. This has not been the case on this hike so at this time no dogs allowed. This is sad for dog owners, but it is GOOD NEWS for people that don't like to step in doggie "stuff."
