I went to my polling place to vote today. I take voting very seriously. I spent more than 20 years in the military, and I have been to countries where there is no right to vote among their citizens. In addition, I subscribe to the belief quotNo Vote...No Grumblequot. I have been a registered Republican for most of my life, but I donrsquot always vote for someone just because they are a Republican. Sometimes, I feel that someone from another party has more qualifications, or is a better choice, and I vote for them, even though they are not Republican. When I arrived at my polling place today, I entered with the mistaken belief that I could vote for whom I wanted to vote for. I did a lot of research, and I had a very good idea of who I would vote for, and some of the individuals I wanted to vote for were not Republicans. I signed in, was given my ballot, and I went into a booth to vote. When I was finished, I was directed to a machine that scanned my ballot, and immediately spit it back out, informing me that it was a bad ballot because I had misvoted. I am a reasonably intelligent person I had taken the time to read the instructions, followed them, and marked only the boxes I was quotsupposedquot to. I sought assistance from the quotstaffquot. I was told that my ballot was invalid because I had not voted for whom I was quotsupposedquot to vote for I will admit that I was both shocked and enraged at this. Here I was, thinking I had a right to vote who I wished to vote for I was informed that I could only vote for those names on the ballot that were in the same party that I indicated I belonged to on the ballot. Voting for anyone outside your party was NOT ALLOWED I immediately stated that I felt that while I was a registered Republican, I felt that there were some individuals on the ballot, running for various offices, who were not Republican but were better choices for the positions they were running for. Again, I was told that I could only vote within the party. By now, I was more disappointed than before. Here I was being told that I had no choice... no right to vote for whom I chose to vote for. I had to vote for who quottheyquot said I should vote for, not who I wanted to vote for. After several minutes of discussion, I was offered two choices manually submit my ballot with itrsquos quoterrorsquot my votes were considered quoterrorsquot because they did not agree with how quottheyquot thought I should vote, in which case my ballot would be invalidated and not counted, or I could sign for another ballot and vote again, this time being a good little sheep and voting the way quottheyquot wanted me to. I learned something today, something that hurts me to my very core. I learned that I have no right to vote for whom I wish to vote for in Hawaii. I can only vote for someone who is in the same political party as me. I had spent my life serving this great country, defending the rights and freedoms afforded to us all by the United States, only to be told that my votes were not Valid, because I had bothered to analyze and study the candidates and chose them on their qualities and qualifications, rather than their political party. I learned something else . . . I learned why things never change in Hawaii. I learned that voting in a Primary Election in the state of Hawairsquoi is a faade. This has saddened my more than I have been saddened in a very long time. Wake up, Hawairsquoi You cannot ever hope to change anything until you have the freedom to vote the way you want ot vote. Your vote is worthless if you can only vote for whom you are told to vote for.

If yoursquove ever had chronic lower back pain, like I did and contemplating on seeing a chiropractor then consider Dr. Dennis Momyer or Dr. Lance Teraoka of Momyer Chiropractic. Theyrsquore just awesome and skilled at what they do Dr. Momyer and Dr. Teraoka were super friendly, quite easy to talk to, and very helpful in answering all of my questions...and believe me I had a ton of them. I was very fortunate to be treated by both doctors and was truly satisfied with the results...my lower back no longer hurts. Other than an annual back readjustment, I mainly go there for a full body deep tissue massage. Itrsquos very reasonable, 20 for half an hour, and my favorite is Lani. They have a couple massage therapists on hand that work in conjunction with Drs. Momyer and Teraoka. If you need your back treated and a massage to boot, drop by Momyer Chiropractic.

Toys N Joy on Waialae Avenue is a place that I could spend an entire day in. I always tell my wife, we have to go there because the kids want to see whatrsquos new when in reality itrsquos me who wants to look. Itrsquos got everything for me...and the kids. This store has a variety of DVD imports movies and anime, games for the Wii, PS3 and XBOX 360., tons of action figures, remote control cars, tshirts and other knick knacks.
If you want to want to take advantage of a beautiful and sunny hawaiian day outdoors, why not take a hike and absorb the awesome views our island has to offer I recommend the Makapuu Lighthouse hike. Its a fairly easy 3mile hike round trip on a concrete path wide enough to fit one vehicle. Going up is all uphill and there are some rocky, dirt roads but nothing too difficult. There is a scenic point along the way where you might see whales during whale season. The very top has a lookout point where you can see Sea Life Park, Rabbit Island, the Koolau Mountains, and of course the lighthouse. We take our mainland guests there all the time and they love it

The slogan is sushi bar quality at take out prices. For about 47 for most take out items, i was very impressed with the quality of the sushi You would expect crappy stuff for this price range. You get what you pay for but in this case, what a deal I also noticed a 4 hour stamp on the package so they must rotate inventory and you know it hasnt been sitting out for 8 hours or days like other places. The spicy tuna was the best. I asked the sushi chef if he could make me a rainbow roll and he did, no problem, while i shopped. Super nice guy at Times Beretania. He said if i needed a platter, they could make it and i could order online.

With all of the recent closings of restaurants, I am worried about that industry. They employ long time full time and part time workers such as teenagers that contribute to our local economy.I know visitor counts are down and locals are saving their hard earned money.Sam Choys Kapahulu, Compadres, KC Drive In, Wisteria, etc... Well established long time businesses are closing and there is no end in site. These are just a few of the great local businesses that are a big part of this community by giving back over the years. I think its time we step up and help the restaurant industry out by eating out once in a while.
